The montly Cultural Salon discussion which was set in December, featured a discussion with the author Dr. Aisha Khalil about her book (44 Aswan). The author’s own grandparents came from Aswan, and her four-year research journey was sparked by discovering a local newspaper her grandfather had published there decades earlier (“Al-Saeed Al-Aqsa”), found by chance in the periodicals hall of Dar al-Kutub (the Egyptian National Library).The session brought together attendees to explore the book’s blend of personal and historical narrative — tracing Aswan’s social and cultural life across three generations, the imprint of colonialism on the city, and the role of oral history and family memory in recovering the stories of Egypt’s provincial cities
